PROJECT:

After a two-month experience in the countryside, in Alentejo, the artist raises some questions related to the natural habitat of human life, addressing the relationship between the body and the environment, the micro and the macro.
The body of works on display combines acrylic painting and watercolors with domestic objects, where the fragments inhabit the space and dialogue with the surrounding environment through an assembly and layering process.

Text written by the curator Gemma Noris for the solo exhibition “Habitat” at the Zaratán gallery in Lisbon (November 2020)
After a two-month experience in the countryside, in Alentejo, the artist brings up some questions related to the natural habitat of human life, and the relationship between the body and the environment.
The set of works on display combines acrylic painting and watercolors with materials and domestic objects, where the fragments inhabit the space and dialogue with the surrounding environment in a process of assemblage and stratification. The compositions seem to house several paintings within each canvas, and these gain such autonomy that they constitute starting points for independent perceptual paths. From the extension of the natural landscape, and its immeasurable grandeur, to the intimate dimension of the house and also of the body, the last frontier between subjectivity and the world.
From the immersion in the field and the observation of its species, Habitat reflects on our way of inhabiting the world, concretely or symbolically, and raises the question of the need for a shelter that carries the energy of the house. We have to emphasize the fact that Veridiana's artistic practice was marked by continuous travels and readjustments of abode around the world. Constant displacement requires a continuous mapping exercise, assuming the conditioning of the ephemeral and the temporary.
